Sexual problems are common, often causing severe distress and impacting negatively on personal relationships. Fortunately the majority of sexual problems are easily treated, either with medication or counselling, or a combination of treatments.

At the West Clinic we offer a discreet and confidential service for the treatment of sexual problems.

Examples of the sexual problems that can be treated include:

  • Problems getting or maintaining an erection
  • Difficulties where ejaculation occurs too early or is delayed
  • Problems with arousal and orgasm
  • Loss of sexual desire
  • Painful intercourse

The clinic operates from fully accessible premises, with a large car park at the front of the building, and there is a pharmacy next door to the surgery.

Treatment

Your initial assessment will involve talking to you in some detail about your sexual problem. This may involve questions about your relationships, your family, your medical problems and any medication you may be taking.

In order to provide you with the best possible service it would be helpful if you could bring a list of current medication and of medical conditions & past operations from your GP.

This information is private and will be kept completely confidential.

The circumstances under which confidentiality can be broken are exceptional and are clearly outlined by the GMC. This information is available on request.

If medication is recommended by Dr West then she can issue you with a private prescription or you may prefer that she writes to your GP to ask him/her to issue an NHS prescription. She will not write to your GP without your consent.

You may also need to have blood tests taken for further investigations. These can either be done at the clinic or you may choose to attend your own surgery.

You may be asked to do certain tasks or exercises at home, either alone or with your partner. These are private and you will never be asked to do any of these in the consulting room.

The need for further appointments is variable and will be discussed with you at your initial appointment. The frequency and duration of these appointments will also be discussed.
